Ilkay Gundogan is back at Manchester City after the Premier League champions signed their former captain on a one-year deal with an option for an extra 12 months.

The German midfielder, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, had left for Barcelona in 2023 on a free transfer. Despite being under contract with Barcelona for two more years, the club allowed him to leave to help their financial situation.

During his previous seven-year stint, Gundogan won 14 major trophies, including five Premier League titles. His return is timely, with City missing key players and having just sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
