Australian driver Jack Doohan will make his Formula 1 debut with Alpine next season, securing a spot as Pierre Gasly's teammate.

Doohan, the son of ex-motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, steps up from his role as a reserve driver to replace Esteban Ocon. Ocon is departing Alpine after a challenging year that sees the team eighth in the constructors' standings, ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old impressed in Formula 2 last year, placing third, and has served as a reserve driver for Alpine throughout 2024. 'I am very grateful for the trust and belief by the team's senior management,' Doohan remarked in a team statement. Renault-owned Alpine has experienced multiple management shake-ups this year, including the return of former team head Flavio Briatore in an advisory role and Oliver Oakes taking over as team principal from Bruno Famin. Alpine is also contemplating moving away from using its own Renault engines in future seasons.
