Australian driver Jack Doohan will join Alpine Racing's Formula One team next season, taking over from Esteban Ocon, the Renault-owned team announced on Friday.

Doohan, the 21-year-old son of MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, has been promoted from his role as a reserve driver. He will pair with Pierre Gasly, offering a blend of youth and experience that Alpine hopes will drive future success.

"Jack will join the already signed and announced Pierre Gasly to form the team's driver pairing for next season, becoming the first Alpine Academy prospect to graduate into a race seat with the team," said Alpine in a statement. Doohan expressed gratitude for the opportunity and is eager to prepare for the upcoming season.

The announcement follows the confirmation that Ocon, who had a notable crash with Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix, will leave after his contract expires at the end of 2024. Alpine currently ranks eighth in the 10-team standings.
