Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has once again topped the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, tying with Belgian legend Justine Henin for a record 117 weeks at the pinnacle. The five-time Grand Slam champion now shares eighth place for total weeks at number one since the inception of computer rankings in 1975.

Swiatek stands poised to tie with Ashleigh Barty, who is in seventh place with 121 weeks if she maintains her top position for another month. Only six players, including Serena Williams and Martina Navratilova, have spent more time at the summit. Swiatek achieved this milestone at just 19 years old in April 2022, and she recently secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics by defeating Slovakia's Anna Karolina 6-2, 6-1.

Justine Henin first claimed the number one spot at age 21 in October 2003, ultimately retiring for the first time in May 2008. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka dropped to number three due to a shoulder injury but rebounded by winning her 15th career title at the Cincinnati Open. Jessica Pegula, enduring a roller-coaster season, remains at number six. Former world number two Paula Badosa has also bounced back, climbing to number 27 following her semifinal stint at the Cincinnati Open. The US Open, commencing on August 26, promises to be a pivotal event for these athletes.
