Current ICC chairman Greg Barclay announced on Tuesday that he will not seek a third term, concluding his tenure on November 30. This decision has ignited speculation about BCCI secretary Jay Shah's possible candidacy for the position.

The cricket community will learn of Shah's intentions by August 27, the final date for submitting nominations for the chairman's post. Barclay, a New Zealand attorney, has already completed four years, and an ICC chairman can serve up to three terms lasting two years each.

In a statement, the ICC confirmed Barclay's plans to step down: 'ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022.'
