Olympic star Simone Biles had to settle for a silver medal in the floor exercise final at the Paris Games on Monday, after mistakes allowed Brazilian Rebeca Andrade to take gold. This followed another disappointment for Biles in the balance beam event, where she finished fifth behind Italian winner Alice D'Amato.

Meanwhile, Germany celebrated a thrilling victory in the Olympic triathlon mixed relay, thanks to a sprint finish by Laura Lindemann. The race saw the United States narrowly edging out Britain for second place following a photo-finish. Unfortunately, highly fancied France was set back by a bike crash during the first leg.

In other events on Monday, 20 gold medals were up for grabs in sports such as 3x3 basketball, badminton, and shooting. Notably, South Korea's An Se-young captured the women's singles badminton gold, and Polish climber Aleksandra Miroslaw broke her own world record twice during the women's speed climbing qualification round.
