The atmosphere of celebration was palpable in the household of hockey player Gurjant Singh after India stormed into the semi-finals at the Paris Olympics. The Indian men's hockey team delivered a historic victory, defeating Great Britain 4-2 in a nail-biting shoot-off, despite being a man down for most of the match.

Joy and sweets filled Gurjant's home as his father, Baldev Singh, expressed his delight, saying, "We are very happy. Our team played exceptionally well. By God's grace, we triumphed today, even with just 10 players. The phone hasn't stopped ringing with calls and greetings. We hope for victory in the semi-finals and aim for the gold medal." Gurjant's mother, Sukhjinder Kaur, added, "Relatives are flooding us with calls. Everyone is elated. I spoke to him two days ago, and our hopes and prayers are pinned on a gold medal."

For India, captain Harmanpreet Singh netted a goal at the 22nd minute, while Lee Morton scored for Great Britain at the 27th minute, leading to a 1-1 tie in regular time. In the shoot-out, India seized every opportunity, denying Great Britain twice to clinch a 4-2 victory and secure their semi-final spot. The win was particularly memorable as India overcame the significant setback of losing Amit Rohidas to a red card in the second quarter for a dangerous play.

Undeterred by being down to 10 men, India showcased remarkable resilience, with goalkeeper PR Sreejesh standing as an impenetrable fortress, leaving no room for Great Britain's advances. (ANI)
