Disappointment for India's Top Shot-Putter in Olympic Qualification
Indian shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time Asian Games gold-medallist, fell short of his personal best and failed to qualify for the Olympics final. He finished 29th overall with a legal throw of 18.05 metres. Both Parul and Ankita also failed to advance in the women's 5000m event.
Indian shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time Asian Games gold-medallist, delivered a disappointing performance in the Olympic qualifiers on Friday. Despite his stellar record, Toor finished a lowly 15th in Group A with a legal throw of 18.05 metres, unable to qualify for the finals.
Toor, who was battling an ankle injury, managed only one legal throw out of three attempts, far below his personal best of 21.77 metres. This year's top qualifier, Italy's Leonardo Fabbri, impressed with a throw of 21.76 metres.
In another setback, Indian athletes Parul and Ankita also failed to make the cut in the women's 5000m heats. Parul narrowly missed her national record, finishing 24th overall, while Ankita finished 40th.
