Matthew Mott, England's white-ball head coach, has resigned after their semi-final defeat to India in the recent T20 World Cup, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday.

Since taking over in May 2022, Mott, 50, has led England to a T20 World Cup win and several series victories. 'I am immensely proud to have coached the England men's team; it has been an honour,' Mott stated.

Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick, 48, will assume the interim head coach role for the remainder of the home summer, including a series against Australia in September.

'He (Mott) can be proud of his achievements,' said Rob Key, ECB's managing director of England men's cricket. The ECB will soon begin the search for a full-time replacement.
