Paris Olympics organisers have confirmed they will bolster security measures at the upcoming Games, ensuring that security staff are both available and well-trained. This follows a pitch invasion during a soccer match between Argentina and Morocco on Wednesday.

The incident occurred during the tournament's opening match at Saint-Etienne Stadium, where security staff had to chase fans around the pitch. Although deemed not a major security risk, organisers affirmed that lessons have been learned. "We do not minimise the events of yesterday," stated Olympics security director Bruno Le Ray, noting that additional staff and barriers would be implemented for future matches.

Le Ray detailed that around 17,000 agents would secure 40 competition sites and 100 non-competitive sites like the Olympic Village and training facilities. On peak days, this number could increase to 22,000. Deployment varies by sport, with over 1,000 agents for major team sports and fewer for individual sports. Police will handle external security, while over 110 security firms are contracted for internal safety. Post-COVID, contracting sufficient staff has been a challenge.

To address no-show risks, organisers have asked for up to 15% more agents and acknowledged difficulties in recruiting female staff for screening. However, technology such as metal detectors will aid in these efforts. Equipment and personnel account for nearly half of the Paris Olympics' 320 million euro ($347 million) security budget.
