The national women's hockey team recently participated in a groundbreaking 'transformative training camp' at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) aimed at fostering mental robustness and discipline.

Held from July 15 to 21 in Kannur, Kerala, the camp was timely as the team is currently rebuilding after failing to qualify for this month's Paris Olympics.

'This transformative camp, conducted in the disciplined environment of the INA, aimed to enhance the team's skills and foster a spirit of unity and resilience,' said an official press release from Hockey India. The camp focused on team building, mental strengthening, and leadership skills.

Chief Coach Harendra Singh praised the camp's comprehensive approach, noting that the training instilled invaluable skills and discipline in the players. Players engaged in demanding drills including unarmed combat, boat pulling, and endurance runs, ensuring they pushed beyond their limits.

'The skills and discipline they have acquired here are invaluable. This experience has undoubtedly prepared our team to face any challenge on and off the field with renewed confidence and determination,' he added.

A friendly match between the academy's hockey team and the visiting Indian side highlighted the camp, followed by an interactive session with INA cadets. Deputy Commandant Rear Admiral Prakash Gopalan emphasized the holistic development experience provided by the training camp.

The camp's diverse activities, from boat pulling to obstacle courses and unarmed combat drills, were designed to instill unity, strategic thinking, and self-defense skills.

The successful execution of the camp under Lt. Hari Prakasam V M's coordination, coupled with specially designed uniforms for participants, underscored the meticulous planning involved in this pioneering initiative.
