Cesc Fabregas Takes Helm at Como: Leads Team to Serie A

Spaniard Cesc Fabregas has been appointed as head coach of Como, where he is a minority shareholder, following a successful stint as assistant and interim coach that led the team to promotion to Serie A, the club confirmed on Friday.

The 37-year-old Fabregas, a former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder, concluded his playing career at Como in 2023 before stepping in as an assistant coach. He took over as interim coach in November, elevating the team from seventh to third in Serie B standings. His efforts culminated in Como securing automatic promotion with a second-place finish.

Fabregas will officially start the season as head coach, with Osian Roberts assuming the role of head of development. Fabregas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the challenges ahead but exuding confidence in the coaching staff.

In another significant move, Como announced their first signing under Fabregas' leadership—former Liverpool, Sevilla, and Villarreal defender Alberto Moreno on a one-year contract. Fabregas praised Moreno's speed, agility, and international experience, noting his potential to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

Como is set to begin their Serie A campaign against Juventus on August 19.
