Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has officially joined Olympique de Marseille on a five-year contract, the clubs announced on Thursday. The British media indicated that the 22-year-old, who came up through United's academy, will cost the Ligue 1 side up to €31.6 million.

Greenwood, who debuted in 2019, accumulated 129 appearances and netted 35 goals for Manchester United. He spent last season on loan at Spain's Getafe, following United's decision to avoid potential distractions despite all criminal charges against him being dropped. Greenwood had been accused of assault and attempted rape, charges he categorically denied.

During his tenure at Getafe, Greenwood scored 10 goals in 36 matches across all competitions, contributing significantly to the team's 12th place finish in LaLiga. Despite expressions of interest from Getafe's President Angel Torres and LaLiga president Javier Tebas for another season, Greenwood has opted to move to Marseille. The Ligue 1 club, under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, will kick off their campaign against Brest on August 18.
