As the West Indies gear up for the second Test against England, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite stressed the need for a significant improvement in their batting performance. The call comes after the Windies suffered a massive defeat by an innings and 114 runs in the first match, which concluded on the third day.

Brathwaite acknowledged some positives in their batting but insisted on finding a way to perform better. 'It's pretty simple what we've got to do. We've got to bat a lot better,' he told ESPNcricinfo. 'We have discussed various ways we can improve as a team. Despite some positives with the bat, our primary focus must be to put runs on the board.'

The captain further stressed the necessity for batsmen to stay longer at the crease, noting that it could make the game easier for the team. 'We need to extend our time at the crease because the longer you bat, the easier it becomes. It's crucial to stick to this plan and convert hard work into longer spells,' Brathwaite added.

Reflecting on the first Test, England dominated with a strong lead, featuring five batters scoring over fifty, culminating in a total of 371. Gus Atkinson's seven-wicket haul decimated the West Indies, who were all out for 121 on the first day. Anderson, in his final game, removed Joshua Da Silva early on.

The spotlight, however, was on debutant Gus Atkinson, who captured ten wickets and earned a place on the Lord's honours board. England's seamers continued their assault on day two, reducing the Windies to six down by stumps, setting the stage for a hefty win. West Indies aim for redemption with the following squad for the second Test: Kraigg Brathwaite (C), Alick Athanaze, Joshua Da Silva (WK), Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Mikyle Louis, Kirk Mckenzie, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales.
