Historic Tennis Event: Billie Jean King Cup Relocates to Malaga

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced that the Billie Jean King Cup finals in November will relocate from Seville to Malaga. The change creates an overlap with the Davis Cup, both now scheduled at the same venue.

The event will commence at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga on Nov. 13 and conclude on Nov. 20, conflicting with the Davis Cup dates of Nov. 19-24. The ITF will construct an additional court to keep both schedules intact.

'The relocation was required by the host partner, Junta de Andalucia, and is supported by the city and provincial council of Malaga,' said the ITF. All ticket holders for Seville can exchange their tickets for Malaga or get a refund.

The tournament format reduces to eight teams in knockout rounds, with reigning champions Canada facing Germany or Britain and runners-up Italy against Japan or Romania in the quarter-finals.

'We aim to ensure a seamless experience for players and fans,' said ITF CEO Kelly Fairweather, adding the move will maintain the prestigious legacies of both tournaments.
