Rory McIlroy clarified Tuesday that he did not intentionally ignore Tiger Woods' supportive text message following his late collapse at the U.S. Open.

McIlroy, who had changed his phone number two days after, explained he only learned of Woods' message that day. 'I blanked Tiger Woods, which is probably not a good thing,' he said with a hint of humor.

Along with Woods, sports icons Michael Jordan and Rafael Nadal also sent McIlroy encouragement after his near miss, with all messages being delayed due to his number change. McIlroy, who is preparing for the British Open at Royal Troon, acknowledged Woods, Jordan, and Nadal for their support.

He further discussed his efforts to evade media pressure by visiting New York City anonymously and changing his contact info. Despite the setback, McIlroy remains optimistic about his performance, drawing inspiration from past champions and working on his putting strategy.

The British Open, beginning Thursday, will see McIlroy reuniting with Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton and Max Homa. McIlroy aims to break his major drought, last tasting major victory in 2014. At Royal Troon, he is prepared to face challenging conditions similar to those in 2016, focusing on refining his putting and maintaining a competitive edge.
