Australian Remy Gardner is set to replace the injured Cal Crutchlow at the upcoming MotoGP Silverstone event, Yamaha announced on Monday. Gardner, the 26-year-old son of 1987 world champion Wayne Gardner, had previously filled in for Yamaha's injured Spaniard Alex Rins in Germany on July 7.

Crutchlow, who retired from full-time racing after the 2020 season, was slated to be the sole British rider in the top category at Silverstone. However, he is forced to withdraw due to ongoing complications from hand surgery. "I had surgery on my hand two months ago, and the recovery has not gone as expected, necessitating further surgery and complications," the 38-year-old team test rider confirmed.

For Crutchlow, it's crucial to allow his hand to heal fully before attempting to ride a MotoGP bike again. Yamaha expects Rins to have fully recovered by the time of the Silverstone race.
