Anshu Malik, a prominent medal contender for the Paris Olympics, has experienced a shoulder strain during training, prompting the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to request an update on her condition.
Anshu secured a silver medal in the recent Ranking Series event in Budapest in the women's 57kg category, narrowly missing out on gold to China's Kexin Hong. She earned her spot at the Olympics by clinching gold at the Asian Olympic Qualifier in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in April. After returning to her training center in Haryana, Anshu reported a left shoulder strain a week ago.
"During a practice session, she felt a strain and ceased training as a precaution. An MRI revealed no serious issues. She resumed light training two days ago," her father and coach Dharamveer Malik informed PTI. "We are scheduled to leave for a training camp in Japan shortly," he added.
WFI President Sanjay Singh mentioned they expect detailed information within two days. "We've been informed she's begun light training. We've requested a status report for clarity," he stated. National coach Virender Dahiya affirmed the team's robust training, aiming for multiple medals.
