Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava has called for a reassessment of the decision to shift 337 tonnes of hazardous waste from the defunct Union Carbide factory in Bhopal to Pithampur, located in Dhar district.
This proposition has come to the fore as the removal of the hazardous waste began on Sunday. The actions follow the Madhya Pradesh High Court's criticism of authorities for disregarding repeated orders to clear the waste in Bhopal.
Bhargava emphasized that not disposing of the waste in Pithampur would benefit the industrial town, Indore, and the entire state. He urged reconsideration of the plan to protect public health and the environment.
