Bhutan plans to construct 'Gelephu Mindfulness City', aimed at being an economic corridor linking South Asia to Southeast Asia. The project, initiated by a $100 million bond, will emphasize eco-friendly living, wellness, and spirituality. It seeks to boost Bhutan's economy and reduce unemployment.
Bhutan, renowned for its Gross National Happiness index, is embarking on a transformative project to bolster its economic prospects. The Himalayan nation announced plans to develop the 'Gelephu Mindfulness City' in a special administrative zone, serving as a bridge between South and Southeast Asia.
The project, funded by a $100 million bond available for non-resident Bhutanese, aims to integrate businesses from various sectors, promote green living, and uphold Bhutan's cultural values of mindfulness and well-being. The city will support eco-tourism, education, and health, fostering a sustainable economy.
With connectivity and investment as potential challenges, Bhutan hopes to create jobs and attract international investors through this ambitious venture inspired by Buddhist heritage. The project also signifies India's support, crucial for infrastructural expansions like roads and rail networks.
