Odisha's coastal regions are on high alert as Cyclone Dana approaches, threatening nearly half of the state's population. By Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed that over 30% of the targeted 10 lakh people had been evacuated to safer areas.
The evacuation efforts were intensively reviewed on Wednesday, with Majhi emphasizing preparedness for the storm anticipated to cross the Odisha coast near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra by early Friday. Key districts like Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Balasore are expected to be most affected, prompting government action to protect residents.
Majhi assured the public of comprehensive preparations and resources, including food provisions for evacuees and robust cyclone shelters. He encouraged citizens to stay safe and calm as state officials and ministers are dispatched to manage the cyclone response in impacted areas.
