In a significant move, wildlife authorities have commenced efforts to relocate two tigers from Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Simlipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha. The endeavor follows a nod from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), affirming the strategic translocation.
A high-level meeting between both reserves laid groundwork for the plan, which is designed to address ecological needs and the ongoing challenge of human-animal conflict. Dr. Jitendra Ramgaokar, the Tadoba-Andhari field director, confirmed that the groundwork is set and officials are actively monitoring the identified tigers.
This initiative is the latest in a series of efforts to manage tiger populations, following intra-state translocations last year. Notably, Chandrapur district has seen a rise in human-wildlife conflicts, underscoring the pressing need for such interventions.
