Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha welcomed tourists once again after being closed due to Cyclone Dana. The reserve had shut its doors on October 23 as the cyclone approached, but as of October 29, visitors can enter through the Jashipur gate.
The Pithabata gate remains closed due to road damage caused by the cyclone and accompanying rains. A senior official indicated that the gate would reopen once repairs are completed, and the date will be announced on the reserve's official website.
Spanning a vast area of 2,750 square kilometers, Similipal is home to diverse wildlife, including rare melanistic tigers, Royal Bengal Tigers, Asian elephants, and numerous bird and reptile species, making it a vital center for biodiversity in the region.
