Taiwanians resumed their daily routines on Friday as work, classes, and flights got back on track following the departure of Typhoon Krathon. The typhoon, having unleashed torrential rains across the island for three days, finally dissipated over a mountainous region.

Although the storm left a heavy rain advisory for the northern coast and mountain zones, the island managed to avert the anticipated level of destruction. Two landslides were reported earlier in the day, yet normalcy was restored in most parts, excluding Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and some areas in Hualien and New Taipei.

The tropical system, which downgraded to a depression, saw its center returning to the sea after a 'U-turn.' With winds reaching up to 126 kph, Krathon toppled trees and caused floods, mainly affecting southern and eastern Taiwan. Although two lives were lost, the typhoon's impact was notably less severe than the 1977 storm that ravaged Kaohsiung.
