Three migrants were confirmed dead, and approximately 25 others are missing following a boat disaster on Monday near the Greek island of Samos, state television reported.

The Greek coastguard has successfully rescued five migrants so far. A search and rescue mission involving four coastguard vessels and a helicopter is still underway near the rocky shores of Agios Isidoros in the island's northwest.

Samos served as a key gateway to the European Union for migrants and refugees from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia in 2015-2016. Nearly 1 million people arrived on the islands during this period, primarily via inflatable dinghies. Although the influx had reduced, it saw a resurgence last year.
