In Bahraich, the Forest Department is employing innovative tactics to capture an elusive wolf believed to be the last remaining of a pack terrorizing locals. Known for causing several attacks in recent months, resulting in eight deaths and numerous injuries, the wolf remains at large despite various capture attempts.

The forest officials are now trying a method called 'wolf howling,' where the sound of a female wolf's cries is played through a loudspeaker to lure the animal into traps. According to Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh, this approach mimics the call of a female wolf with a carefully calibrated pitch to attract the male wolf.

Despite previous efforts that included cages, diversion techniques, elephant dung cakes, children's urine, and fireworks, the rogue wolf continues to evade capture. The local population lives in fear, prompting a large-scale operation involving over 165 forest personnel, sharpshooters, and police forces to capture the dangerous animal.

District Magistrate Monika Rani highlighted that many attacks occurred in homes without doors or where doors were left open. Over 300 homes have since received door installations, and village lighting improvements are underway. Financial aid is being provided to the victims' families, and the Chief Minister has conducted an aerial survey, promising swift action.
