The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has expressed its surprise at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) failure to respond on time regarding a stagnant drain issue inconveniencing South Delhi residents.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) had earlier instructed the MCD to prioritize the cleaning and desilting of the drain, which was causing a significant mosquito infestation and intolerable stench for the residents of Greater Kailash I.

In its recent order, NGT's Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that the DPCC had filed an inspection report highlighting the mosquito breeding problem due to the clogged drain. Despite DPCC's directive, MCD did not file a timely response, prompting the NGT to adjourn the case for further proceedings on September 20.
