The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another wet spell for Odisha, starting from Friday and extending through to Sunday. This prediction comes with the formation of a new low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and nearby regions.

In a special weather bulletin released on Thursday, the IMD indicated that an upper air cyclonic circulation currently over southeast Bangladesh and adjoining areas is likely to form a low-pressure area within 24 hours. This system is expected to move west-northwestward, potentially developing into a depression over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours. As a result, Odisha will likely experience a wet spell from September 13 to September 15, with heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas such as Kalahandi district. Similarly, isolated areas in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts can expect heavy rainfall and thunderstorms as well.

The IMD also warned of thunderstorms with lightning in isolated regions including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. During this period, fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the North Bay of Bengal and the waters near the Odisha coast.
