Pakistan's Punjab province government has officially initiated the 'Wagah Joint Check Post Expansion Project' to amplify the seating capacity from 8,000 to 24,000 at the India-Pakistan border, a government official revealed on Wednesday.

The project costs PKR 3 billion and aims to match India's seating capacity by its completion date in December 2025.

While the agreement was signed in February, the project has recently gained momentum, according to a Punjab government representative.

The expansion will also include a historical museum, upgraded waiting lounges, green rooms for VVIPs, and enhanced security measures.

The existing 115-meter-high flagpole, currently the fifth tallest globally, will be replaced with a relocated 135-meter flagpole, making it the world's third highest.
