Singapore and India have officially upgraded their bilateral relationship to a 'comprehensive strategic partnership.' This development was marked by a meeting on Thursday between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The two leaders discussed various facets of their relationship and signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi praised Singapore as not just a partner but an inspiration for developing nations. He expressed confidence in Singapore's future progress under its fourth-generation leadership. Modi also highlighted the collaborative efforts between India and Singapore in multiple sectors, including skilling, digitalisation, and advanced manufacturing.

During Modi's two-day visit, which followed his trip to Brunei, he received a red-carpet welcome and held extensive meetings with Singaporean dignitaries. Modi's itinerary includes interactions with Singaporean business leaders and a visit to a semiconductor manufacturing facility, emphasizing the deepening ties between the two nations.
