ISLAMABAD, Sep 11 (PTI) - A 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattled several regions of Pakistan, including the capital city of Islamabad, on Wednesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Residents in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the federal capital, reported feeling the tremors. The earthquake occurred at 12:28 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) and was recorded at a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale, as per the country's meteorological authorities.

The seismic event's epicenter was located near Dera Ghazi Khan in the southwestern part of Punjab province, at a depth of 10 kilometers, Geo News stated based on Met Department information. In contrast, the United States Geological Survey reported the quake's magnitude at 5.4, noting its impact across India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. India's National Center for Seismology indicated the earthquake struck Pakistan at 12:58 pm and registered a 5.8 magnitude. For context, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in 2005 resulted in the tragic loss of thousands in Pakistan and Kashmir.
