Arunachal Pradesh's Hydropower Surge: A Step Towards Economic Boom
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced the commencement of hydropower projects totaling 12,500 MW over the next two years. These endeavors by CPSUs will not only meet regional and national power needs but also enhance tourism, employment, and generate significant revenue for the state.

Arunachal Pradesh is set for a significant economic boost as Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced the launch of hydropower projects with a combined installed capacity of 12,500 MW. These projects, spearheaded by CPSUs like NHPC, NEEPCO, THDC, and SJVN, will commence operations over the next two years.
During the Solung festival celebrations at Roing in the Lower Dibang Valley district, Mein highlighted that five projects will start next year, followed by six more in 2026 and 2027. Mein emphasized the multifaceted benefits of these projects, from meeting energy needs to enhancing irrigation, fisheries, tourism, and employment in the state.
Additionally, these initiatives are expected to generate Rs 1,836 crore annually for the state. The government is also focusing on smaller hydro projects to benefit border villages and military setups. Concurrently, a public hearing was held for the 2200 MW Oju hydroelectric project in Upper Subansiri district, addressing environmental and social impacts.
