Typhoon Yagi, Asia's most powerful storm this year, has been downgraded to a tropical depression after causing widespread destruction in northern Vietnam, including significant damage to factories and infrastructure in key industrial areas.
On Saturday, Yagi disrupted power and telecommunications in Hanoi, caused severe flooding, felled thousands of trees, and damaged homes. The storm and ensuing natural disasters killed 21 people in Vietnam and injured 229, following its deadly path through China and the Philippines.
In Haiphong, workers were sent home as industrial parks shut down due to flood damage. It may take a month for full recovery, according to local sources. The government warns of ongoing flood risks despite the storm's weakening.
