Devastating Typhoon Yagi Causes Chaos Across Hong Kong and Southern China

A potent typhoon named Yagi swept south of Hong Kong, initiating disruptions as it aimed toward a Chinese island province for its expected Friday landfall.

With winds reaching 230 kilometers per hour, the powerful typhoon compelled over 250 Hong Kong residents to seek refuge and halted trading, banking, and school activities. It also resulted in the cancellation of more than 100 flights and downed numerous trees.

In Southern China's Hainan province, preparations included sandbag barriers and reinforced windows, while suspensions affected schools, businesses, and transport. Yagi, previously a tropical storm, had already wrought havoc in the Philippines, causing 16 deaths, 17 missing persons, and displacing over 47,600 residents.
