Floods in Andhra Pradesh have wreaked havoc, damaging crops across 1.8 lakh hectares and affecting 2 lakh farmers, according to initial estimates provided by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday. The Minister assured that the central government would extend help to the affected farmers.

During his two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chouhan noted the significant damage to crops, including flowers and turmeric. He mentioned that NDRF teams and Agriculture Department officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation, Chouhan added.

Chouhan conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas in Vijayawada, inspecting places like Budameru, Jakkampudi Milk Factory, and Kandrika, along with the Prakasham Barrage Dam. He interacted with local residents and farmers, expressing the central government's commitment to providing relief. The state government, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, is ensuring the delivery of essential supplies to the affected regions. Chouhan is scheduled to visit Khammam village in Telangana on Friday to further assess the damage and discuss relief measures with officials.
