Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Wednesday inaugurated 22 developmental projects, including the installation of street lights, improvement of roads, and the renovation of a community hall, in 18 villages of southwest Delhi under the Dilli Gramoday Abhiyan (DGA), a statement said.

Additionally, the Namo Drone Didi programme was launched in the national capital to financially empower women and their self-help groups, the statement added.

Under the Namo Drone Didi scheme, around 200 women in the city will be trained to operate drones and receive a drone pilot licence certificate.

Saxena emphasized that the DGA aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to develop villages and provide amenities comparable to urban areas.

'My endeavour is to develop all the villages of the national capital in the same way as other areas of Delhi have been developed,' he said.

'Almost all the unauthorised colonies of Delhi are situated near villages. With the development of facilities in villages, lakhs of people living in these colonies will also benefit,' the LG said, adding, 'we will soon take appropriate steps to eliminate the problems of roads, drains, sewers, and water in unauthorised colonies.'

Initiated in December 2023, the DGA aims to improve village living conditions by extending civic amenities. The Gram Sabha Area Fund of Rs 960 crore, previously unused by the Delhi government, was transferred to the DDA for various developmental works in the villages.

A renovated community hall in Kharkhari Nahar village was also inaugurated as part of these initiatives.

Other civic agencies have completed several developmental works, including the installation of street lights in various areas, such as Shakurpur, Chaukhandi, Tatarpur, Sarangpur, Doulatpur, Rewla Khanpur, Paprawat, Chhawla, and Asalatpur Khawad.

To date, 552 projects worth Rs 508 crore have been sanctioned under this Abhiyan, including 78 by the DDA. Of these, 35 projects have already been completed, focusing on lighting arrangements, community hall renovations, road development, and renovating existing cremation grounds.

The objectives of the DGA are to elevate the villagers' quality of life by addressing infrastructure and civic gaps, implementing strategic, locally-tailored planning, fostering active community participation in decision-making, and ensuring equitable access to community assets and opportunities.
