In a distressing turn of events, torrential rains in Himachal Pradesh led to the closure of 78 roads, including major national highways 5 and 707, on Tuesday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Intermittent downpours lashed several regions, with Baldwara recording the highest rainfall at 90 mm. Other affected areas include Bharari, Jogindernagar, and Shimla, where heavy rains severely reduced visibility.

Landslides caused road blockages, but, fortunately, no casualties were reported. The meteorological office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations. The ongoing monsoon has resulted in 153 deaths and financial damages amounting to over Rs 1,271 crore.
