Armenia's sole nuclear power plant, which was shut down for security reasons after a lightning strike, has been successfully reconnected to the grid. Operations are expected to resume in full soon, according to a report by Interfax news agency on Saturday.
The incident caused a temporary blackout in multiple districts of Yerevan, Armenia's capital, and other regions late on Friday. The plant was struck by lightning at 9:55 p.m. (1755 GMT) on Friday, as cited by the ministry of territorial administration and infrastructure.
According to the ministry, 'The reason for the shutdown was a lightning strike, which prompted the station's safety systems to activate safe shutdown mode.'
