A five-year-old girl was injured in a wolf attack in Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the district information department said. According to locals, Afsana was sleeping in her house in Pandohia village when a wolf attacked her, leaving tooth marks on her neck.

Family members and villagers rushed the injured girl to a community health centre in Mahsi. Officers from various sectors and the BJP MLA of Mahsi, Sureshvar Singh, went to the village to advise people to stay alert.

Officials report that eight people, including seven children, have died and over 30 have been injured in wolf attacks within two months. Nearby Sitapur district has also reported attacks, while leopard sightings have been noted in other districts.

On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered intensified patrolling and additional manpower in sensitive districts following the rise in human fatalities from animal attacks.

Adityanath assured that the government is committed to protecting citizens' lives and has directed top officials to implement comprehensive security measures in wildlife-sensitive zones. He emphasized the importance of public awareness around safety measures.

The Chief Minister called for additional forest department personnel to be deployed in Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, and Bijnor. An update on the situation was sought from Forest Minister Arun Kumar Saxena, who was instructed to visit affected areas.
