Life in Vijayawada has been severely disrupted following torrential downpours over the past three days, compounded by more than 24 hours of power cuts in several parts of the city.

The heavy rainfall has severely impacted internet and mobile telephone connectivity, causing long traffic jams and disrupting normal life, including travel to Hyderabad.

The transportation network within Vijayawada and its vicinity is in chaos. There is no viable route to reach Hyderabad, except a slight possibility via the Piduguralla route.

Ajit Singh Nagar is among the worst-hit areas, suffering from the overflow of the Budameru rivulet. Many residents on ground floors have sought refuge in upper-floor houses of neighbors due to rising water levels.

Residents are contending with empty overhead tanks and lack of drinking water supplies. Mobile phone services are also down due to battery exhaustion.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu confirmed that several parts of Vijayawada are flooded due to unprecedented rainfall and swollen rivulets, affecting over 2.7 lakh people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Naidu, promising all possible assistance from the Centre to manage the crisis.
