Himachal Pradesh Faces Severe Rainfall Deficit Amid Monsoon Fury
Himachal Pradesh experienced a 24 per cent rainfall deficit from June 1 to September 1, amidst the ongoing monsoon season. Despite heavy rains causing extensive damage and over 150 fatalities, 11 of the state's 12 districts recorded a rainfall shortfall. The state has sustained losses amounting to Rs 1,265 crore.

Himachal Pradesh has experienced a significant 24 per cent deficit in rainfall between June 1 and September 1, despite periods of heavy rains during the monsoon season that resulted in extensive damage and over 150 fatalities.
According to the meteorological department, 11 out of the 12 districts in the state reported a rainfall deficit, with only Shimla district receiving 10 per cent excess rain.
The state recorded 471.1 mm of rainfall against an average of 618.9 mm. The most affected district, Lahaul and Spiti, observed a 73 per cent rain shortfall, followed by Kinnaur at 43 per cent. Rain-related incidents have caused estimated losses of Rs 1,265 crore. The local meteorological office has issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on September 3.
