A well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, with the system likely to cross the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha near Kalingapatnam around midnight, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Under the depression's influence, Odisha is predicted to experience isolated very heavy rainfall during this period, with heavy rainfall likely to continue on September 1, the IMD reported. The agency had previously issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in southern Odisha.

Heavy rainfall is expected in several districts, including Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur, as well as in western and southern regions of Odisha. The state's Special Relief Commissioner has advised all district collectors to remain prepared for any eventuality caused by the depression.
