Sudan's health ministry has confirmed the collapse of the Arbaat dam in the eastern Red Sea state due to heavy rainfall, leading to extensive flooding.
A statement released late Sunday indicated that resources were deployed to assist those stranded by the floodwaters. Four deaths have been confirmed, though the number of missing persons remains unspecified.
However, a local official, Amr Eissa Taher, who heads irrigation in the Red Sea state, provided a grim estimate to the Sudanese news site Al-Tagheer, suggesting at least 60 people may have perished, with many more still unaccounted for.
