Heavy rainfall in Tripura has resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives, with two individuals still missing, according to a senior official.

The severe weather has forced over 65,400 people to seek shelter in 450 relief camps across the state, as the downpour has heavily damaged homes and infrastructure. Rivers in multiple districts, including Dhalai, Khowai, and South Tripura, are above the danger mark, stated Brijesh Pandey, Revenue Department Secretary.

Pandey also revealed significant erosion at 1,952 road locations and reported landslides at 2,032 spots, with 1,789 already cleared. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more heavy rainfall, leading to the closure of all educational institutions on Friday. Relief efforts are ongoing, with evacuation operations assisted by helicopters provided by the Centre and rescue missions led by Assam Rifles.
