Indore's district administration, on Tuesday, announced a strategic move to switch local factories from coal to green fuels, in an effort to enhance the city's air quality. District Collector Ashish Singh instructed the administrative team to survey industrial units reliant on coal and ensure a transition to natural gas and other green alternatives.

The use of coal significantly contributes to Indore's air pollution, despite the city being consistently recognized as India's cleanest. Alongside this, the District Magistrate is considering relocating furniture manufacturing units outside the urban area.

Sudhir Gore of Clean Air Catalyst emphasized that while transitioning to green fuels is beneficial, addressing vehicular pollution and road dust, which account for 70 percent of air quality issues in Indore, is crucial. Industrial emissions and cooking with traditional fuels also significantly impact air quality, he added.
