Himachal Pradesh Hit by Torrential Rains, Landslides, and Flash Floods

Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with severe rain-induced landslides and flash floods over the past week, which have thrown daily life into disarray, blocking more than 120 roads, uprooting trees, and inundating low-lying areas as reported by officials.

An official update on Thursday confirmed that 126 roads, including two national highways, remain closed for vehicular movement. Additionally, the local meteorological office has issued an 'orange' alert for heavy to very heavy rains and a 'yellow' alert for isolated heavy rains until August 21.

Heavy rains have inflicted significant damage in Kangra, Sirmaur, and Bilaspur districts overnight. Emergency services are actively addressing road closures, power outages, and disrupted water supply schemes. Since June 27, the state has recorded 113 deaths from rain-related incidents and suffered financial losses amounting to Rs 1,083 crore.
