Himachal Pradesh Deluged: Road Closures and Flash Flood Warnings

Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have led to the closure of 109 roads, including National Highway 707. The state emergency operation centre has issued warnings of flash floods and heavy rainfall in several districts, causing significant disruptions in power supply and resulting in losses amounting to Rs 1,265 crore.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, leading to the closure of 109 roads, including the critical National Highway 707, according to the state emergency operation centre. The local meteorological office has warned of low to moderate flash flood risks in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kullu, and Kinnaur districts until Tuesday.

A 'yellow' alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning has also been issued for isolated places in the state until Tuesday. SEOC data reveals that besides National Highway 707, 55 roads in Sirmaur, 23 in Shimla, 10 each in Mandi and Kangra, nine in Kullu, and one each in Lahaul, Spiti, and Una districts are closed.

As many as 427 power supply schemes have been disrupted. Heavy rains have particularly lashed parts of Sirmaur, Bilaspur, and Mandi districts, with Nahan in Sirmaur logging 143.5 mm of rain. The state has suffered losses amounting to Rs 1,265 crore, with 151 lives lost in rain-related incidents this year.
