New Zealand and the Republic of the Marshall Islands are set to deepen their cooperation, particularly in enhancing disaster resilience and addressing climate change impacts, Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters announced during his visit to Majuro.

“New Zealand is dedicated to tackling the challenges faced by the 'Blue Continent,' including those impacting the Marshall Islands. We are committed to investing in a resilient and prosperous future for the Marshall Islands,” Mr. Peters stated.

As part of this commitment, New Zealand will allocate $6.2 million to a project aimed at improving the Marshall Islands' ability to prepare for and adapt to natural disasters and climate change risks. “Given the Marshall Islands' vulnerability as a nation of low-lying atolls and islands, our support is both timely and crucial,” Mr. Peters added.

Mr. Peters is accompanied by Hon Jenny Salesa, Chair of the Labour Pacific Caucus; Tim van de Molen, Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee (FADTC); and FADTC member Teanau Tuiono. The delegation is engaging with President Hilda Heine, Minister-in Assistance Bremity Lakjohn, Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko, and other key officials to discuss shared priorities and regional issues.
