Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh presented awards to distinguished personalities in the medical field and philanthropists at a ceremony hosted by Malayala Manorama and The Week magazine today. The event celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to various domains including social service, media, education, cinema, and music.

During the ceremony, Dr. Singh unveiled "Pioneers of India," a Coffee Table book showcasing 29 notable figures who have shaped diverse fields in the country. He lauded the book as a tribute to India's rich tradition of creativity and intellectual achievement.

In his address, Dr. Singh expressed his pride in being among the medical community, highlighting his own distinguished career as an endocrinologist spanning four decades. He described the book as a testament to India's extraordinary heritage and pioneering achievements across different sectors.

Dr. Singh also spoke about the positive developments under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, emphasizing the government's commitment to advancing research and development. He highlighted recent budgetary measures, including internships for youth, the abolition of angel tax, and CSR rules mandating corporate investment in R&D.

The Minister reiterated the government's support for startups, citing successes in the space and biotechnology sectors achieved through collaboration with non-governmental organizations. He underscored India’s leadership in preventive healthcare while warning of the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases alongside communicable ones.

Dr. Singh shared his perspective on fostering sustainable startups, advising that early industry linkage and moving beyond the notion that startups are solely about IT are crucial for success. He also stressed the government's commitment to providing a supportive environment for startups.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Singh commended the publishing house for its efforts in radiating optimism, positivity, and creativity. He also highlighted the significance of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), which digitizes traditional knowledge and facilitates its transfer to future generations.
