At least 11 people from a family, including six children, lost their lives when floodwaters inundated the basement of their house in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kohat district, officials reported on Tuesday.
The devastating incident occurred in Darra Adam Khel Tehsil, approximately 35 kilometers south of Peshawar, as heavy rains ravaged the region.
The basement flooding led to the tragic deaths of six children, three women, and two men, according to the provincial disaster management agency. Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies, which were transported to a hospital in Kohat.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.
Flash floods and urban flooding are frequent during Pakistan's monsoon season. On Monday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) cautioned that monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal were likely to affect the central and southern regions of Pakistan, bringing heavy rains to the catchment areas. The NDMA advised residents to avoid floodwaters and seek safety in less risky regions.
